Everyone at Racing and Waiting is saddened to hear the news that Sergio Pininfarina has passed away. Pininfarina is a name linked to many of the most beautiful cars to ever grace the planet, and perhaps has even influenced the styling of one of your road cars.
Born Sergio Farina on 8 September 1926 in Turin, Italy, Sergio joined his father Battista Farina at Carrozzeria Pininfarina and over saw some of the most famous Ferraris that now regularly break records at auctions around the world.
I’m not going to list the cars because it’s a huge list. Personally I once owned a Fiat Coupe, styled on the exterior by a young Chris Bangle with the still fresh interior designed by Pininfarina. That’s probably about as close as I will get to owning anything directly related to this fabulous company.
But I have been lucky enough to spend a few days with a Testarossa, a red blooded slice of the 80′s that commands more road presence that many modern supercars. But there’s more, how about the Ferrari Daytona, Lancia Montecarlo, Maserati Quattroporte and Ferrari P4/5 to name a few.
I am sure that Sergio’s legacy for beautiful design will continue long into the future and there is no better way to celebrate such an important figure in automotive history.
rest in peace Sergio.
